A hemorrhoid is basically a dilated overgrowth of veins of the anal canal. Hemorrhoids can be classified as internal or external. Internal hemorrhoids are formed inside the anal canal and can be painless and bleed with prolapse. The external hemorrhoid is formed outside the anal canal and is painful, with bleeding. Some patients may have both types of hemorrhoids.

Hemorrhoids can cause itching, pain, anal discharge and bleeding in the stool.

Hemorrhoid can be treated with adequate intake of fluids, fibers, stool softeners, painkillers, antiseptic ointments, or surgery. A sitz bath is also recommended. Conservative treatment is recommended with pregnancy-induced hemorrhoids.
